Injury updates at Parc Y Scarlets

The Scarlets have issued the following update regarding injuries to their players sustained in the RaboDirect PRO12 play-off against Ulster on Friday evening at Ravenhill.

Scarlets and Wales hooker Ken Owens was taken to hospital in Belfast as a precaution after sustaining a neck injury. He underwent three scans to investigate the extent of his injury which ruled out any serious damage. He has flown back to Wales today (Sunday) accompanied by Scarlets Head of Medical Andrew Walker who has been in touch with Wales regarding the assessment of his injury.

Outside half Rhys Priestland has seen a specialist and will be reviewed and assessed fully by the Wales medical team when he reports to join the Wales set-up on Monday morning after experiencing tension and stiffening of his Achilles tendon in the warm-up for the game against Ulster.

Centre Scott Williams was taken off the field after sustaining a shoulder injury. The injury will be further assessed and monitored by Wales when he reports for duty tomorrow (Monday).

Full back Liam Williams experienced tightness in his hamstring and will also be reassessed and monitored by Wales this week.

The Scarlets medical team has been in close contact with the WRU over the weekend regarding the four injured internationals and has handed over information for their further assessment this week. All four will therefore report to Wales on Monday morning as planned.
